First Beautiful Day 19 C - No melting

Well we made it through the first hot day with our puppy. We went out to Cochrane. Dawson begged to go to the playground so Bronson and Grandma stayed in car for a little while but decided to come out and join the fun. Here are some photos of our day. We also learned to be very cautious when walking in a school playground - lots of treats on the ground for puppies. Funny how they can try to be sneaky; taking a little rest while trying to reach over for the squished orange (yike!).

Bronson and Dawson are getting closer but Bronson does tend to follow too closely to Dawson which drives him crazy - our puppy has taken on the role of the annoying little brother that wants to play all the time. Unfortunately, Bronson is not all that delicate with hockey pucks, balls and is a little ruff n'tumble with body checking during hockey. He takes Dawson out and makes it worse by jumping on top of him. Full on tackle by 50 lb dog - not much fun when you are only 43 lbs.

Graduating Puppy Kindergarten

Bronson did take part in Puppy Kindergarten with Colleen from Diamond in The Ruff. She knows her stuff. We are hoping to continue with more classes in the Fall but feel more educated about how to have a more well-behaved pooch. He tries our patience but he knows he is loved.

Five Months Old - March 23, 2008

Sir Bronson at his best. Yes he is a spoiled puppy - livin' every puppy's dream of being allowed on the bed. He is only allowed up if he isn't licking certain parts and not jumping up wanting to lie on our heads. He is a little (a lot) to big for that. He was approximately 44 lbs in these photos.

Bronson & Hazel Reunited

What a blast! It was so cute watching Bronson & Hazel play. Both puppies turn 5 months old tomorrow - Sunday, March 23, 2008. It was nice to see Duncan again as well. We met Duncan and his buddy Harry during the Lilac Festival a few years back. It was then that we learned of Bloemco and happy that we did because if it wasn't for Mike and his wife - we would not have even known. It was sad to hear that Harry died of Cancer, just shy of being 5 years old but they now have a new playmate for Duncan - his pesky baby sister Hazel. We hope there are more playdates soon.

Hazel has the red heart on her collar and her famous signature is "The Ear" - gotta love it. Duncan is the big boy and Bronson doesn't have the collar but sure does look like Hazel's twin.

Thanks Mike

Here is the most adorable picture of Bronson's sister Hazel. Thanks again Mike for the photo. Hope you don't mind me posting it. The two of them look like twins. Too cute!

St.Paddy's Berner Walk

Here we are at Edworthy Park on Sunday, March 16, 2008. What a beautiful day! It was snowing in the beginning but ended in full sunshine. You may have been able to see if my battery had not died on the camera. I do want to post the names of all the puppies because I want to get to know them all. Bronson was excited as always. It was neat that he got to be reunited with his brother Gus. Gus is the puppy wearing the green bow. I do have a number of photos of Gus because it was so great to finally see Bloemco kin from same litter. What a sweet puppy! He was so much more calm than Bronson.

I am so glad that the Calgary Berner Walk was developed. We are having a blast!

Neat Story I Found Online

This is a really neat story. I remember when I decided to name Bronson - I was googling everything there was to know about Bernese Mountain Dogs.  I came across this story.  Funny that the dog's name was Bronson as well.  I kept it anyways even though there was another Bronson Berner.  Wonder if my guy will be a hero - hopefully we won't need him to be.

Here is the story:

One afternoon, some children were enjoying inner-tube rafting down a rocky offshoot of the Dungeneff River near Seattle, Washington. One nine-year-old girl was left behind as the other children arrived on shore, where a Bernese Mountain Dog named Bronson was waiting to greet them. Left alone on the water, the girl panicked and fell off of her inner tube into the roiling water. Her companions watched helplessly as she struggled in the water, but Bronson never hesitated. He leaped into the rough waters, swam to her, and grabbed hold of her clothes. Swimming strongly, he pulled the child to shore by the seat of her pants. But his Berner sense of duty was not yet satisfied. He also rescued a full-grown keeshond that was in the water. As a final victory, Bronson patrolled up and down the beach and would not allow any of the children to go back into the river.
The most amazing part of this story is that this Bernese Mountain Dog did not belong to any of the children whom he was protecting; in fact, none of the children knew him. He was just a big, friendly dog standing on the shore. But at least one family was very thankful that a big, tricolor dog was watching over a group of children that afternoon on the Dungeneff.
